Codex participants distinguished niche repeatable work from one-off creative experiments. Some favoured reusable skills to improve consistency and help replacement agents resume work. Others preferred long-lived threads, project folders or manually steered context and questioned pressure to create skills for every task. A separate discussion found that a borrowed prompt could feel less useful than established personal context.

ABC peer-learning discussion connected capability to ordinary operating friction: sorting photos, moving files, targeting the right UI element and resuming prior conversations. A described offline sorting tool did not yet implement the requested AI tagging; proposed approaches should not be mistaken for finished solutions.

Practical implications

Choose between a one-off prompt, maintained project instructions and a reusable skill using concrete repeat tasks and failure recovery. Template volume alone is not evidence of better work.
